what to pray on the NDP


Ask for God’s wisdom, guidance and protection for President Obama, Vice-President Biden, U.S. Senators (for us: Jim Webb and Mark Warner), U.S. Representatives (Rick Boucher), Governor Bob McDonnell, State Senators and Delegates (John Edwards, David Nutter and James Shuler).

Also for our local leaders: board of supervisors, town council, administrators, school boards, and university administration.

For our churches to be alive in Christ, and the gospel to advance and bear fruit in our community. For unity in truth among churches.

For effectiveness and protection of local law enforcement & safety officers. For successful prosecution of crimes and lawlessness both in our region and throughout the nation.

For generosity and sacrifice to abound as we deal with economic recession. For economic reform that is just and sensible. For ethical leadership in American corporations.

For repentance from national sins of pride, unbelief, injustice, idolatry, greed, materialism, selfishness, violence, and sexual immorality.

For preservation of religious freedom here and abroad.

For our educational institutions: local schools and colleges (Virginia Tech, Radford University, and NRCC).

That our international residents would feel welcome in our community and have opportunity to hear the gospel.

For an end to war in Afghanistan and Iraq, and for protection for U.S. troops abroad.

Healing for broken homes, children without parents, and victims of abuse.
For an end to the abortion holocaust and for successful efforts of pregnancy resource centers.

An end to pornography, violence against women, and sex trafficking. For truthfulness, decency and morality in media.

For good stewardship of our natural resources, and protection for those around our country working in disaster relief.

For our homeland security. Thanks to God for protection from the recent unsuccessful NYC car bomb.

And thanksgiving for the many bounties and blessings our nation has received from God in his grace: food, clean water, clothing, homes, families, friends, democracy, law and order, freedom to worship, and many more.

“The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him." (Nahum 1:7 ESV)

"But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare." (Jeremiah 29:7)

”First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” (1 Timothy 2:1, 2)

But with an overflowing flood he will make a complete end of the adversaries, and will pursue his enemies into darkness." (Nahum 1:7-8)  TIME'S UP FOR NINEVEH (Nah 1-3). The prophecy of Nahum is God's word to the people of Nineveh, part two. Jonah was part one, chronicling a city-wide repentance of Assyrians in the capital about a hundred years earlier. The closing bookend is Nahum, and the Assyrian empire is big, powerful, and aggressive. Notice the references to chariots (2:3-4, 13; 3:2). The Assyrians were a militarily advanced culture, and cruel in their warfare. Whatever spiritual receptivity they had at the time of Jonah was gone by the time of Nahum. Bible reading for December 13 -- 14  Dec 13 -- Haggai 2 and John 3 Dec 14 -- Zechariah 1 and John 4 ================ "Be strong, all you people of the land, declares the LORD. Work, for I am with you, declares the LORD of hosts..." (Haggai 2:4) THE LATTER GLORY (Haggai 2). The Jews, having returned from Babylonian exile, must get to work and finish rebuilding the temple. For this reason, the post-exilic period is called the "second temple" period. King Herod would later enlarge and add many embellishments to the site. But the beginnings in Haggai are so modest compared to the temple originally built by Solomon, and the people were discouraged. The Lord asks, "Is it not as nothing in your eyes?" (v 3) He tells them that they are to be strong and to keep working, for he is with them, no matter how humble the project may seem. This principle applies to us, as well (Matt 28:20; Eph 6:10).
